Car in a Lake
A car misses a turn and sinks into a shallow lake to a depth of 8.7 m. If the area of the car door is 0.69 m2, what is the force exerted on the outside of the door by the water? Note: 1 atm = 101.325 kPa.
1.29×105 N
What is the force exerted on the inside of the door by the air, assuming the inside of the car is at atmospheric pressure? Think about what the occupant should do to get the door open.

part 2 is the answer -ve ?

Re:
nvm for prt 2 its just
P= 101000 Pa= 1 atm
A= (given in problem)
F=P*A

How do we find the area for the lake?

Can I get some help on part A? I found the pressure of the
water and multiplied it by the area of the car door, but
that's not the right answer.
NEW
part a
find density of liquid
water=1000kg/m3
to find pressure of something in liquid=pgh
1000*9.8*h, dont forget about 1atm on top of water
so u add 101000 to pgh and the multiply by A

So i did this and I after adding my answer (127400 +
101000) i get 228400 Pa * 0.58m^2 = 132472 N. I was
wondering do I have to do some sort of conversion because
it is not accepting my answer and I have tried to convert
to atm, kPa, torr then multiply that converted pressure by
the area but it is not working. Can someone help me out.

Never mind, i did the scientific notation wrong (E4 instead
of E5)

units?

part 1
i got 118404 for my answer but it's not accepting it, is there something else i
have to do?
